Wood Texture (Photoshop textures tutorial) - step 4
Control-click the shape layer to obtain a selection which has the same contour as the shape and then add a new layer on top of the previous one. Next select the Gradient Tool, click the colour gradient on the top bar and choose Noise as Gradient Type in the Gradient Editor dialog. Hit Randomize to change the colours.
Wood Texture (Photoshop textures tutorial) - step 5
When you're happy with your choice click OK and fill the new layer with a noise gradient, from top top bottom.
Wood Texture (Photoshop textures tutorial) - step 6
Repeat the operation onto a new layer, with the same selected area but a new colour gradient. And do it once more. Now you have three gradients on three different layers.
