Adding color to a vintage photo may seem like a daunting task, but its really quite easy. Open your vintage photo into photoshop. Click on the "Edit in Quick Mask Mode" button, or simply hit "Q". Make sure your background and foreground colors are set to black and white. Select the Brush tool, or simply hit "B"
Decide where to start, on this photo I decided to start with the hair.
With black as your foreground color begin to "color" the hair. You'll notice that your covering the entire area with red... but don't worry as this is part of the masking process. You can hit "Q" to toggle out of "Quick Mask Mode" to check your work. Keep checking your work... the more you check, the better the end result will be.
